Maze and Labyrinth News - April 2026

I am back again with all the things I found during the month that didn’t quite fit into it’s own blog post, but that I found interesting about mazes and labyrinths. The news archive for past months is at the bottom of the post.

  • The world’s largest stone labyrinth is now open !

7 years after building began, a stone labyrinth called Kerdroya has been completed in Cornwall, England. Created by Cornish artist Will Coleman, the labyrinth is 56meters wide, (183.7 feet), making it the largest stone labyrinth in the world. The photos in this article show just how impressive it is. Plan a trip on the official website.

  • A Maze on the Restroom Floor

Never thought I would write that. I have written many blog posts about maze games, and Pac-Man was the arcade game that popularized the maze chase game genre. Well, if you live in Portland, OR you have probably visited the arcade Ground Kontrol. Located at 115 NW 5th Ave, this seems like the kind of place I would love to hang out. Eventually you will be to use the restroom and, as this article mentions, it includes a tile floor of our favorite arcade maze game.

  • A Maze Comic Strip

I have my own maze comic strip that I update every Wednesday, but I found this political cartoon by Bill Bramhall showing Trump in a maze. Check out the link to see it.

  • The King adds a maze to a garden

The Castle of Mey in Caithness, GB was a favorite of the late Queen Mother, who enjoyed spending time in the gardens. King Charles was a fan of mazes as a child, so when he had an opportunity to remake the gardens and grounds of the Castle of Mey he made sure to design a small maze in the garden. The article that spoke about this is making the rounds again, and I am looking for updates on the maze completion.

  • Micromouse competitions took place in March in the US

Check out the APEC Micromouse website which was scheduled for Monday, March 23, 2026. This features engineers competing to have their robotic mouses solve a maze the fastest. Here is a video showing previous contests:

  • A hedge maze of Ireland in Ireland

Someone seems to have made a hedge maze in the shape of Ireland, using the counties as the internal walls in Tullow, Ireland. I found this article that shows the drone view. What the article does not do is tell exactly where it is and who created it. I did not give up, and I found it on Google Maps. It seems to be outside a Rathwood Furniture store that has been around since 1994. Here is a website to plan your trip.

  • A labyrinth painting on a wall in Malton, UK

If you walk down St Leonard's Lane in Malton you will find some new artwork, a labyrinth painted on the wall. It is near Yorkshire Tea Rooms and was created by a Methodist minister named Peter Clark. Read all about it and see the labyrinth in this article.

  • Ship vs. Maze game launches April 2nd !

This is my kind of arcade style game. Only 2 controls, left and right. Here is the announcement post that tells you about the game and here is the games official Steam page if you are interested in playing it when it releases.

  • A New Maze Generator to check out

This comes from a reddit post by abdullahmnsr in the maze group where he mentioned he made a free maze generator. You can check it out here: https://puzzlemazestudio.netlify.app/. It includes a maze generator that can make a maze of up to 1000x1000. The Pattern Maze Generator has 35 different patterns to choose from in a variety of sizes. An Image Maze Generator. Shape Mazes, Typographic Mazes. Room Mazes and Isometric Mazes. There is a lot to explore ! I love this isometric maze example (although it has no start and goal - new sites have things to work out).

  • A House with a maze is still for sale in NY

The house is being sold by Sotheby’s International Real Estate and is listed for $10 Million. The photo gallery is worth a look and includes some great views of the maze ! I will quote directly from the Sotheby’s site:

“At its core lies one of the most extraordinary sculptural landmarks in the world: the largest stone maze ever built, a 1,680-foot-long environmental sculpture by British artist Michael Ayrton. Completed in 1965 and described by the artist as "the only one of stone since the 4th or 5th century B.C.," the labyrinth features towering walls and original bronzes of Daedalus, Icarus, and the Minotaur.”

  • A Christmas Tree Labyrinth in WA

A Christmas Tree labyrinth was created in the Chewelah Creative District in Washington state. It was created by creating pathways using Christmas lights strung between the trees. It opened on January 1st and is open each night with free admission. Check out the article with an aerial photo of the labyrinth. Here is a video of a walk through last year’s version:

I had written about this before, but if you are in Canberra, Australia the Yarramula Play Station just opened a new, large, indoor-outdoor maze that looks amazing. The owner, Jason Perkins, mentions in this article that it takes between 1-2 hours to solve ! The maze is made of wooden poles, and I for one am excited to see the upcoming videos that get made of it (you can a watch a mini video in the article) !

  • A Snow Maze from Shenyang, China

I’m boing to quote directly from the details on You Tube for this one “A winter park in Shenyang, the capital of Liaoning province in northeastern China, has become a seasonal magnet for residents and tourists seeking outdoor recreation amid the cold season. The park’s main attractions include a sprawling snow maze carved into the winter landscape and a thrilling 400‑metre ice slide that draws long lines of visitors eager to experience its speed and excitement.

  • A short animated video for kids about a snow maze

  • The Indiana State Museum has gone maze !!

I have written before about the company Minotaur Mazes, which specializes in creating real world mazes that can be used in exhibits and museums. They have brought their concept to the Indiana State Museum located in Indianapolis if you want to plan a visit ! Here is a link highlighting what you can expect to find.

  • New Maze section on this site

I added a section to the free downloadable maze portion of the website that I called regular mazes. They are basic black and white standard mazes, no frills. 4 levels from easy to almost hard, with 10 mazes per level. 4 downloadable booklets are available. Here is a medium level maze for kids as an example:

Maze and Labyrinth News - January 2026

I am back again with all the things I found during the month that didn’t quite fit into it’s own blog post, but that I found interesting about mazes and labyrinths. The news archive is below.

  • A historically important Labyrinth found in India

A classical 15 circuit circular labyrinth was found in Boramani grassland region of Solapur district. The labyrinth is thought to be over 2000 years old. You can read about the find in the Times of India or watch this video with subtitles on.

  • I found a new maze movie poster

I saw this poster and knew I had to include it here. The documentary After Work from 2023 has a movie poster that features a hedge maze. The doc is about the future of the world when nobody has to work because technology has taken the jobs. This might be one of The 10 Best Maze Themed Movie Posters if I re-evaluate the list in the future !

Named Liticha, Pedreres de s'Hostal and located in Menorca, Spain on the Balearic Islands, this sandstone quarry is now a tourist site that includes a very cool labyrinth. You can plan a trip on their website. You can find some cool photos of it on streetview from Google Maps.

  • A maze with levels and conditional doors !

A puzzle designer created a conditional maze that layers multiple mazes on top of each other by using colored doors ! Very nice concept. You can find the maze download, and other puzzles on his puzzle page.

  • A maze made of thousands of books from the past !

This giant book maze, called aMAZEme was a temporary pop-up art installation in London at the Royal Festival Hall during the Southbank Centre’s Festival of the World way back in 2012. The walls of the maze were made from 250K stacked books placed by volunteers. The maze was not difficult - it was made in the shape of a fingerprint, it is a maze that would be difficult to get through for many of us. I would stop and look for something to read ! I would stop and find something to read. Check out the book maze being made:

  • Americans Disagree On The Definition Of Art

I stumbled upon this article by 538: Americans Disagree On The Definition Of Art. If you don’t want to read it (but you should), here is a summary with some commentary.

In general Americans do not think Modern art is art. A majority of Americans think they can replicate some specific modern works of art, and that means it isn’t art to them. Do readers think they can make the mazes I make ? Do they think it is maze art as I do ? I think some of you certainly can. And if you do reach out ! I love to be inspired.

  • The Assiniboine Zoo Light Maze

Kids will love this Christmas light maze in Winnipeg, Canada. Plan your trip on the zoo’s website !

  • A Beach Maze from Miami Art Week (2023)

Miami Art Week takes place each year in Miami during early December. Back in 2023 in featured a work called 'MAZE: JOURNEY THROUGH THE ALGORITHMIC SELF' by Sebastian Errazuriz. I love how the color of the walls of the maze perfectly matched the color of the sand as if this is naturally part of the landscape. And of course any maze or labyrinth that has a large center is always appreciated as it can be used for rest/meditation or a yoga class like in the video above. Sebastian Errazuriz, the artist of the piece, is NYC based and has a wide variety of works/styles to explore.
