Maze and Labyrinth News - January 2026

I am back again with all the things I found during the month that didn’t quite fit into it’s own blog post, but that I found interesting about mazes and labyrinths. The news archive is below.

  • A historically important Labyrinth found in India

A classical 15 circuit circular labyrinth was found in Boramani grassland region of Solapur district. The labyrinth is thought to be over 2000 years old. You can read about the find in the Times of India or watch this video with subtitles on.

  • I found a new maze movie poster

I saw this poster and knew I had to include it here. The documentary After Work from 2023 has a movie poster that features a hedge maze. The doc is about the future of the world when nobody has to work because technology has taken the jobs. This might be one of The 10 Best Maze Themed Movie Posters if I re-evaluate the list in the future !

  • Another new Labyrinth song

Last month I found a labyrinth song and my algorithm took over and sent me this new music by Showing Teeth, called Labyrinth. It’s metal.

  • Paw Patrol maze in Argentina

I was at the mall in Buenos Aires, Argentina and saw this Paw Patrol maze on the walkway in the mall. “Help rubble get to his friends”

  • Check out this sandstone quarry in Spain

Named Liticha, Pedreres de s'Hostal and located in Menorca, Spain on the Balearic Islands, this sandstone quarry is now a tourist site that includes a very cool labyrinth. You can plan a trip on their website. You can find some cool photos of it on streetview from Google Maps.

  • A maze with levels and conditional doors !

A puzzle designer created a conditional maze that layers multiple mazes on top of each other by using colored doors ! Very nice concept. You can find the maze download, and other puzzles on his puzzle page.

  • A maze made of thousands of books from the past !

This giant book maze, called aMAZEme was a temporary pop-up art installation in London at the Royal Festival Hall during the Southbank Centre’s Festival of the World way back in 2012. The walls of the maze were made from 250K stacked books placed by volunteers. The maze was not difficult - it was made in the shape of a fingerprint, it is a maze that would be difficult to get through for many of us. I would stop and look for something to read ! I would stop and find something to read. Check out the book maze being made:

  • Americans Disagree On The Definition Of Art

I stumbled upon this article by 538: Americans Disagree On The Definition Of Art. If you don’t want to read it (but you should), here is a summary with some commentary.

In general Americans do not think Modern art is art. A majority of Americans think they can replicate some specific modern works of art, and that means it isn’t art to them. Do readers think they can make the mazes I make ? Do they think it is maze art as I do ? I think some of you certainly can. And if you do reach out ! I love to be inspired.

  • The Assiniboine Zoo Light Maze

Kids will love this Christmas light maze in Winnipeg, Canada. Plan your trip on the zoo’s website !

  • A Beach Maze from Miami Art Week (2023)

Miami Art Week takes place each year in Miami during early December. Back in 2023 in featured a work called 'MAZE: JOURNEY THROUGH THE ALGORITHMIC SELF' by Sebastian Errazuriz. I love how the color of the walls of the maze perfectly matched the color of the sand as if this is naturally part of the landscape. And of course any maze or labyrinth that has a large center is always appreciated as it can be used for rest/meditation or a yoga class like in the video above. Sebastian Errazuriz, the artist of the piece, is NYC based and has a wide variety of works/styles to explore.

Maze and Labyrinth News - December 2025

I am back again with all the things I found during the month that didn’t quite fit into it’s own blog post, but that I found interesting about mazes and labyrinths. There is a lot of news this month ! Before we get started, don’t forget there are some perfect gifts for maze and labyrinth lovers.

  • A new movie, Labyrinth….wait 2 movies

I saw an article about a new movie, Labyrinth, which had it’s US premiere at genre festival FilmQuest on October 31st in Provo Utah. It is a horror film that is described as “A group of strangers are brought together to be judged for their past transgressions in a facility where they must run a gauntlet of deadly challenges.” You can see the details of the movie on the FilmQuest website. This seems like a maze movie to me.

Then I saw there is another movie called Labyrinth, coming out in January of 2026, also by a Japanese director that is animated. This film is by Shoji Kawamori and seems to be about an alternate world inside your cellphone. A multiverse for you comic book fans. That movie has a trailer:

  • Some new music “The Labyrinth”

If you like your music a bit heavier than most this new song might be for you. This song by Black Orchid is from the perspective of the minotaur. I have written about songs with the name labyrinth before: Lost in the Melodies: Exploring the Best Songs Named Labyrinth.

  • A tree labyrinth project in Swindon, England

I saw this interesting article about the making of a labyrinth in Lydiard Park that is the called the 80 Oaks Labyrinth. And as you may have guessed it was made by planting 80 oak trees into concentric circles. So this future will grow over time. The labyrinth is a tribute to the soldiers of WW2. This article shows diagrams of the plans and placement.

  • A Labyrinth discovery in Crete ?

If there is one place interesting to find a 4000 year old labyrinth it would be Crete. Archeologists there discovered a circular structure, appearing to be 8 concentric rings during the building of a new airport.

  • An underground city in Iran

A saw this video while researching another underground city in Iran. It sure looks like a maze to me, and reminds me of my trip to Maastricht (The Subterranean Maze: Unraveling the Caves of Maastricht).

  • The movie Labyrinth is returning to theaters

To celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the Jim Henson movie Labyrinth the movie will return to theaters from January 8th to 11th. It will also be a 4K remastered version. Check your local theaters for showtimes !

  • 99 Nights hedge maze solution

When I think of maze video games I think of Minecraft and Pac-Man, but I came across this maze in the game 99 Nights in the Forest and I found myself interested in watching. You can play on crazygames.

  • A large straw maze in opened in China

In the Heilongjiang province in China a 13K square-meter maze was built and is now open to the public. It was made from bails of rice straw. Click on the photo in this story to see a quick 10 second flyover or watch the 3 minute version:

  • A straw maze in Burley, Idaho for Christmas

What do you do with a straw bale maze you had set-up for Halloween ? Leave it up but change the decorations for Christmas seems like a good idea to me. The Lost In Christmas Straw Maze is open in Burley, Idaho on Friday and Saturday nights. Check out this video from KMVT11.

  • Myles Garrett is really good at football

Back in 2023, Mapleside Farms, an 100 acre farm located in Brunswick, OH featured a Myles Garrett corn maze. Maybe you’ve heard - he seems to be having a great season this year. While the original maze is gone, it lives on thanks to YouTube, and you can still visit the farm for the holidays!

  • Escape Artists Logo

I sat down to watch The Equalizer 3, and I caught the logo for Escape Artists, the production company. The company has been around since 2001 and this was the first time I noticed the logo of a maze of an eye. Very cool logo. And I really like that it is grey walls on a black background. It also has a gradient effect with a brighter center and darker edges. Cool solvable maze.

  • Andor had a maze symbol logo in Season 2

I finally got around to watching Andor Season 2. I wanted to get ready for anything that might show up in the new movies being made in the Star Wars universe. Well in Episode 8 of the season during the protest scene, the flag being held up by the locals looks like a maze/labyrinth. I took a screen grab of it. The episode was outstanding. One of the best you’ll ever see for a tv show.

  • Popular Science covered the making of corn mazes !

A really nice article by Popular Science detailing how Exploration Farms in Indiana creates their corn maze. Here is a video of one of the farms popular older mazes as we get ready for the final season of the show:

And here is a video about corn mazes being made similar to the article:

  • The Magic Maze Game

Nothing really new or topical about this entry but I wanted to share that as I was waiting for check-in time for my stay in Uruguay I wasted some time at the mall and was happy to find this maze game on the shelf. Apparently in was launched in 2017, and I am not sure if I had seen it before. Sounds like a fast paced game that is good for a group of 4 to play based on the review at board game geek.

  • Michigan State Spartans alternative football helmets

I was watching football while making mazes on October 18th, a typical thing I do. Well I saw the MSU alternative helmets that featured a helmet stripe in the shape of a Greek key (appropriate for a team called the Spartans). I used to have a section on the website of patterns (no longer active) but I included a the pattern in a few mazes over the years because it looks so much like a maze/labyrinth ! The maze is one of 29 available in the The Pattern Boxes Maze Booklet.

  • A great article about Corn mazes as a supplemental business.

I think we all know that corn mazes are a money maker for farmers, but I wanted to highlight this well written article from Midstory about corn maze in Ohio. I learned the top 10 states for farms in the US (take a guess before visiting) and that Agritourism started to spike in 2017. For farmers the tourism season typically lasts about 6 weeks. Any guesses on how much they make during that time on average (check the article to find out).

  • An article about Toronto’s Path system

I have been to Toronto before, in the late Summer when there was great weather and I had no idea there was an underground pathway that linked the city together. Perhaps had I visited on a rainy day or in Winter things would have been different. As someone who has spent most of their life in cold weather cities I really appreciate this connectivity. Described as an underground labyrinth, this is over 30Km of pedestrian tunnels that link the metro to the buildings of the city. The article that alerted me to it is excellent, but some of you might prefer to watch your information:

Happy Maze-ing !

Maze and Labyrinth News - October 2025

I am back again with all the things I found during the month that didn’t quite fit into it’s own blog post, but that I found interesting about mazes and labyrinths. Some news is evergreen and can be found in past monthly news posts:

There are lots of corn mazes to check out this time of year !

  • The Corn Maze of the Year winner was announced by USAToday

Congratulations to the Treworgy Family Orchards Corn Maze which was voted the corn maze of the year for the 4th straight year ! This years version was in the shape of a whale. • I found a new maze themed movie poster

If you haven’t seen my blog posts on the best movie posters, I have written 2 posts. Always love to see labyrinth and mazes represented well. Active Measures is a documentary with a circular maze theme:

  • And a new movie banner featuring a maze

Which is not quite a movie poster, but you can find a version similar to this banner I found when I signed up for HBOMAX. Heretic is a recommended horror movie if you are wondering, with Hugh Grant excellent as a weirdo.

  • Travis and Taylor have an engagement themed corn maze in Missouri

I want to give a shout-out to Precision Mazes for capturing the making of this corn maze from above. We need more of these videos ! You can plan your trip to visit the maze at Johnson Farms Plants & Pumpkins in Belton, MO.

  • Clark's Elioak Farm in Maryland

I came across an article about this farm and luckily I clicked on it. They have an “Enchanted Forest Pine Tree Maze” they built in 2009 which was adjusted in 2013 to be “The Enchanted Pine Tree Forest”. So no more maze. Why is it here ? Well it’s one of those interesting roadside attractions that needs to be shared. You can find a short video below, but there are many walking tours online if you want a longer version. Plan a visit on their website, and here is the labyrinth page on the church website that features the labyrinth if you want to plan a visit.

  • A Labrinth in Manitowoc, WI was restored !

I have written about labyrinths to visit in every state of the US. I love to hear when they are restored and put back into regular use like this one at Lakeshore United Methodist Church in Manitowoc, WI ! While this one did not make my list of 8 Labyrinths to visit in Wisconsin, but there are over 100 in the state to choose from ! Here is a video on the labyrinth.

  • Ohio Tourism made a corn maze map !

I don’t know about you, but I think more places should do this ! Here is a link to the Tourism Ohio site where you can find the media release and a drawn kids maze, and here is the tourism page with the information and downloadable link where you can find the 46 corn maze strong map. Great idea to help support local farms !

  • The best laid plans - A personal story

I had a chance to visit some friends for a quick weekend trip in the city I lived in for the majority of my adult life - NYC. I planned to visit the labyrinth in Battery Park and write about it here. But because of construction and incorrect Google Maps hours I was unable to access it. I arrived too early and could not make it back later in the day without missing my flight. So you get a gallery of my almost visit instead. I also got to attend some kids sporting events during my time with friends and some of my mazes were taken to entertain the kids not playing. It seems they were a hit (people love to see mazes of their names) and I inspired my friends son (Will) to build his own maze ! Very cool. I also found a heart maze toy when I was there.

  • Another maze found in the Aldi grocery store
