Electronics Mazes - A Collection of Electronics Item Mazes

I have made a lot of mazes for the site, and because of the daily theme I have ended up making some unique mazes that I don’t think you will find most places. Today I have pulled together some of the Electronics Mazes into a collection because they are so unique. Let’s have a look !

My top 9 Electronics Mazes

It would be nice if there were 10, but there aren’t.

I made this Television Maze using a photo I liked of a flower. It’s a nice old school, get up off the chair and change the channel version of a television with rabbit ears. A maze of a modern television would be very easy to make and extremely difficult to identify as a tv.

Before everyone gathered around the television they spent time listening to the radio. Here is a Radio Maze. Notice the AM FM SW options on the face. When I look at it I can can hear the sound of changing channels in my head.

Yes some of you have no idea what this is. Either way, enjoy this VCR Maze with it’s mid-blinking 12:00 time ! And of course it also has the classic red/yellow/white tri-plug. This maze is done in a cut thru style so you travel ON the line, not in between them !

Another cut thru maze style for this Camera Maze. I bet this takes better pictures than your phone…probably ?

And for Ipod Day I made this Ipod Maze to celebrate. There was cake. It is celebrated each October 23rd as this was first released on that date in 2001. Mark your calendars.

Before we were all at home streaming movies and tv on our computers we used to go to the movie theater. What do you think of this Movie Projector Maze ? The comments are off so just say it to yourself out loud. It is a standard equal construction maze.

You don’t find many Sewing Machine Mazes. Now you have finally found one ! And you seem to be fixing a Mountain Dew shirt based on the thread color.

What song do you hear when you look at this Jukebox Maze ? Pick any one you want. I would pick B6.

Since I made these mazes, I have transitioned into much more complex maze making and dare I say Maze Art. Check out my home page for the latest maze art !

Your Highness (2011) Movie Review

It’s been awhile since I reviewed a movie that contains a maze or labyrinth. And there are some great maze movies out there if you were looking for one. But there is also the complete opposite, with a lot of terrible, mostly weak horror movies. So today we will will figure out which movie bucket the 2011 adventure comedy Your Highness fits into.

Your Highness (IMDB) (Amazon)

Your Highness movie poster

Your Highness is an adventure comedy that pairs 2 brothers on a quest to find one of their kidnapped brides. One brother is good looking and does seems to do everything right (James Franco) while the other is a bit lazy (Danny McBride). The comedic portions of the movie are very much similar to other Danny McBride shows/movies so if you enjoy his type of comedy then this is for you. If you are not a fan, this might be something to watch in the background.

So what about the reason you are reviewing this here , you know the mazes ? Well, in the last half of the movie the group comes upon a maze and of course a very excited Minotaur that they must defeat to move on in their quest. It actually becomes one of the funnier parts of the movie punctuated with a nice ending to the scene. Except for the Minotaur. Not a good ending for him.

Overall, this is an average movie made with actors and actresses you know that is fine to watch for free, but is not something you should ever seek out unless you love Danny McBride. I give it a 5/10.

How to Make a Racing Maze

In a series of posts I will show you how to make a maze in a wide variety of design constructions. The 41st type of maze construction is the Racing Maze. While most constructions are about the making of the specific maze, this one is more about the structure of the maze(s). Let’s define what I mean, then get into the example. At the end of the post I have added a free downloadable maze race book featuring 30 printable maze races !

Racing Maze - A Maze made specifically for racing between two people. The winner is the person that reaches the common goal first.

How to Make a Racing Maze

Before getting into the steps let’s talk about some guidelines for a good racing maze.

  1. It is contained on one piece of paper (and preferably a large one) .

  2. It consists of identical mazes, one on each side of the page which both end at the goal in the center of the paper. An Escape maze is not the best type for a race (though possible) since the multi-goal option is taken away by the common ending.

  3. The maze type should be able to be solved with a writing utensil (to prove the solve has been done). So a maze like an arrow maze would not work easily. Block Move and Warp mazes can also be problematic. If you take a wrong warp an eraser will be needed.

  4. Consider the difficulty you want for the maze. Something too difficult will lower the tension that a more speedy maze will create.

Step 1 - Draw Half of the Maze

I have crammed multiple steps into this because you can use multiple different types of maze constructions, each with its own steps. The key is the maze is drawn to fit on slightly less than half the page. It should start at the bottom of the page and end it the center of the page. You may notice the large gap in the example below….that’s it !

UFO Maze

Step 2 - Copy and Invert the Maze

Copy the maze you have made and paste it on the top of the page inverted so it faces the opposite direction. This will create 2 identical mazes on one sheet of paper, with each one facing a person sitting across from the other. You will most likely need to adjust the original placement as everything gets centered !

2 person UFO racing Maze

Step 3 - Add final touches

In my example I tag the sides with my website and the name of the maze (or type). I do this because Racing always reminds me of race cars and how they are filled with brand logos. I think this would actually look even better with MORE logos.

Step 4 - Create the Solution (optional)

My guess is that based on the small size and multiple solvers, nobody will be needing a solution, but feel free to create one if you believe it will be needed.

So, you made a racing maze, but do you know the rules and options for the race ? I have it covered and you can find all the information HERE !

Can You Find the Maze Design Mistake ? Part 2

I love making weaving mazes, but they present some challenges for the maze designer in addition to the solver. So much that I made a full post of my mistakes to test your observation skills. Turns out, there are now enough mistakes for a Part 2 !!! Not sure if that should get any exclamation points, but here we are.

If you want to try making them yourself you can read how I make a Weaving Maze, or the revised, improved weaving maze option. And if you think you would enjoy real, correct weaving mazes to solve like the ones below you can check out multiple books on Amazon.

Let’s test your observation skills !

Here are the 2 main types of mistakes I made. A path that ends under another, or one that never comes out from under another.

Examples of mistakes you might find.

Examples of mistakes you might find.

Let’s get started with our first maze which looks like a window. I like the design of the weaving maze but, it wouldn’t be here if there wasn’t a problem in the design. Can you find it ? When you are ready, scroll down to get the answer !

For me, that was a tough one to find the mistake. If you found the design mistake, great job ! Let’s look at maze #2 and see how you do.

Maze #2 is the most popular shape I use. The shape is great for using for weaving mazes, but again I made a design mistake. Can you find it ? When you are ready, scroll down to get the answer !

Another path to nowhere…I found that one quickly. maybe because it was in a corner.

Maze #4 is a version of my favorite shape, just with a different start/goal configuration than normal. Can you find the error ? You know what to do.

That was a tough one for me. I know the purpose of this post is to test your observation skills, but I just want to mention that this type of maze is really fun to solve (and design IMO). I made a poster size (11x17) weaving maze of a skull that people seem to like. I have a book of these on Amazon also. Try to solve a few of these - just don’t dead end at my mistakes !!

Back to the observation game. How about this fun shape?

I wish we were done, but I made a lot of mistakes, I’m just glad I caught them and could make them into something interesting (assuming so if you are still here!)

Still more unfortunately.. Try this cloudlike shape. I am not sure what made me design a maze in this shape or maybe more accurately non-shape, but here we are.

And that does it. My mistakes became a game. I’d like to say this is the last time we do this, but I know it is not ! How did you do ? Would you be interested in more content like this ?
