Batman and Robin Walk Into a Maze...

I review any movie that has a maze scene in it. I have done over 50 movie reviews, including The Batman (2022) but I never do television reviews. However, today I was scrolling through YouTube and a few videos caught my eye because they include two of my favorite things: Mazes and Batman, and so I wanted to do a quick post to share these with you. So this isn’t a review, but a specific episode you might like to watch. That being said I have seen every episode of this series and WOULD recommend it. It won many awards and is considered a top 30 tv series of all time !

From Batman the Animated Series, the Riddler gets Batman and Robin into a maze at the amusement park in Gotham (A favorite place of the Joker also). This maze scene is broken down into 2 different segments from 2 different people, but I suggest you watch the entire episode S1E41, called If You're So Smart, Why Aren't You Rich? (Episode originally aired Nov 18, 1992).

If you are into television and movie artwork check out Phantom City Creative out of Toronto. Great posters and designs from your favorite movies. They made the limited edition poster for this episode that you see below, which I love (could it be because of the maze ?)

First I want to say there are no spoilers per say in this review but I will speak about some plot details of the movie that do not give anything away. So now you know.

Let’s start off with the good. This is all about Batman the detective. It is not an action movie although there are a few action sequences. It is a dark movie. Gotham is well represented as a gritty, large city with the flavor of a merged NYC and Chicago. The cinemaphotography is very good. The acting is very good from multiple characters, and Pattinson fits as Batman IMO. All in all this a movie that everyone is flocking to see in theaters and for good reason.

Now, some of the not so good. This is a slow building plot. It is a murder mystery and everything comes together in the end, but not in a fast paced way. It would be ideal if they had cut 20 minutes from the movie (it clocks in at just under 3 hours) and they played it at 1.3X speed. I suggest cutting some of the scenes with soggy boots and very slow walking….or give us an INTERMISSION !! Half of the theater I was in got up at some point during the movie to go to the bathroom. Everyone else was probably uncomfortable. Also, skip the end credits scene.

This review is on a maze website, and that is because a maze is part of the plot of the movie. A serial killer is on the loose in Gotham. The second victim is killed in a very clever way using rats in a maze. Of course this includes a riddle as a clue. And everything else you’ll need to learn by watching the movie.

This film is definitely worth your time, just don’t drink too much before going to the theater, I give the movie a 7.5/10.

Enjoy this trailer for the movie:

Maze of the Week #11 - Agora Sign Maze, Cleveland, Ohio

We return to the city of Cleveland with this week’s maze of the Agora Theater Sign in Cleveland, Ohio. What I love about this sign is the great pops of color that protrude from the front of the sign. If you are a fan of Bruce Springsteen and the E street band, in 2014 they released a live album from their 1978 concert there.

Some information about The Agora Theater

It has moved around many times, and switched names, but it has been a part of Cleveland since 1913. The building currently known as the Agora first opened on March 31, 1913 (thus the feature this week). I included a short video so you can check out the inside of the space. If you are fans of rock from the 1970’s there are some classic videos on YouTube from the venue you might like,

Maze of the Week #10 - The Alamo Mission Maze

Our second building maze of the year takes us to San Antonio and the famous Alamo Mission. I had made a maze of the Alamo before and decided I wanted to upgrade and see if I could improve on the previous version, I think I did. Why am I fetauring this maze, this week ? Well, The Battle fo the Alamo was fought between February 23 – March 6, 1836.

Some information about The Alamo Mission

Famous for the 13 day siege that was part of the Texas Revolution. Despite losing the battle, Texas defeated the Mexican army a little of a month later to form the Republic of Texas. A nice place to plan a visit if you are in the area. Take a tour and learn more in the video below.

Before we get to the mazes let’s take a look at a photo of The Alamo Mission from JOSE GIL from Pexels

The original maze:

I did a simple outline of the building, colored it and included a standard maze. You’ll notice the building is symmetrical with perfectly straight lines and it uses only two colors.

The new maze versions:

And here WAS the updated Alamo Mission Maze that I was going to feature this week: It is a large size maze 22x34 inches in full size and is in black and white. The maze construction is draw and cut, and because of the scale it does not look like a maze at first glance (IMO). I used the stones that make up the building as the walls of the maze. Now about the WAS. I like this maze a lot but I decided to take the time colorize it a bit to see if it would improve the maze…
