Maze of the Week #5 - Sit and Spin Laundromat Sign Maze

Our 5th maze of the year is another sign from the state or Arkansas, this one from Fayetteville. This week I feature the Sit and Spin Laundromat Sign Maze. I really like the old timey look and simple colors of this sign. I would also like to say that as I was doing some research on the laundromat, they also have a great logo !

Well, it is a laundromat that is self service and open 24/7 just like all the best laundries are. It has free wi-fi which is one thing I love while I wait for my clothes to dry. Located at 737 N Leverett Ave Fayetteville, AR 72701 if you want to stop by. There is also a restaurant next door if you want to eat and spin instead of just sitting.

I would have never guessed that the ampersand lights up as purple at night. How beautiful !

The Maze:

Only in color for this one. A combination of a connected dots maze construction in the yellow sections with a regular circular construction in the white letters.

Maze of the Week #4 - Holiday Bowl Texarkana, AR Sign Maze

I have made a lot of sign mazes, and this Holiday Bowl Sign Maze is out first of the new year. I was looking for cool looking signs online and I found this one. I also grew up doing a lot of bowling although my average is not ideal and too low to print here. There was just enough empty space to add a maze so it worked well. For this maze I made 2 versions.

Some information about Holiday Bowl

Holiday Bowl is now called Holiday Entertainment Center, at least for their website. Seems like a great place for some family entertainment since it includes Bowling, Glow Bowling, Laser Tag, and a Game Room. Here is a short videos showing the space after their remodel in 2017:

Maze of the Week #3 - The University of Alaska Museum of the North

After my first 2 landscape mazes to start the year we switch subjects and I present a building maze. This week the maze features the architecture of Joan Soranno and the GDM/HGA team in the form of The University of Alaska Museum of the North. I made 2 options of the maze, one in color and the other in greyscale. The architecture of the building, while not only beautiful lent itself to a draw and cut maze construction that solves like a grid maze. I think you will enjoy it !

My guess is most of you do not live near this museum, but if you are ever in Fairbanks, Alaska, you should plan a visit. While I have never visited myself, I have added this to my bucket list after watching this video (They have their own YouTube channel). Seems like a great and educational way to spend a day.

First the full color version that I prefer. Notice it is from a slightly different angle than the photo above. Both are from a time of year (Summer?) when there is no snow on the ground.

Today we have a new maze generator to review. I think you are going to like this one because it has so much more functionality than most I have seen online.

I will be using the same format I have used for my review of the top maze generators and am adding this review to the main blog post. If you are not familiar with that post I will look at what shapes of maze are available, the cell types, size, choices to start and end the maze, is the solution given and can you download it. What this site does best: Of all the sites I reviewed this is one of only 2 sites with Circular maze generation. It is also the site with the most flexibility in creating shapes. You can create a distance map that shows how far the point is from the entrance. The generator offers a choice of 10 different algorithms to generate the maze. You can also solve these mazes on screen using your mouse and keyboard. You can also choose to watch the maze generate !

Examples: Starting in the top left corner a simple 20x20 maze, a hexagonal grid maze, a circular maze, and a shape I made myself using the mask feature. I also suggest you check out the examples given on the site.

Finally here is a look at an example of a distance map. From the bottom entrance in green to the top exit in red (generally).

I couldn’t resist making a “do you” maze using the mask feature.

This is an excellent website for generating mazes. I recommend it.
