Electronic Labyrinth THX 1138 4EB (1967) IMDB
You may know this 15 minute short film for the longer version it spawned, THX 1138 (1971) starring Robert Duvall. Each was directed by George Lucas, with the first version being done in USC film school. The action follows a man, labelled THX 1138 as he attempts to escape a futuristic labyrinth. He is being pursued and monitored by a large number of workers using technology. It has a dystopian Sci-fi feel. The dialogue is garbled and staticky, mostly on purpose (I think). You really do not need to understand much to know what is happening. The why is not clear, but as the story unfolds you can fill-in a reasonable story on your own. The tone of the story is cold, with black, white and grey colors throughout. The lighting is harsh industrial. I think the world that was created was well done for a low budget.
I give this movie a 6.3/10. The future movie is a better examination of the story and my preferred version.
The movie is available on YouTube, so you may as well watch it:
