Animal Maze Section Updates

I have been thinking about updating some of the older sections of the website and I am starting with the Animal Maze section. Most of these mazes were from 2019 and have not been touched since. Here is how I changed the Animal Maze section of the site to improve it.

  • Remade some mazes to improve their solvability

I went back I changed many of my mazes of the week earlier this year using new techniques I have learned through the years. I didn’t do anything too advanced on these but did touch the majority of them. Here are 2 examples that illustrate most of my changes:

For this Mule maze I changed the start/goal to words from arrows. This increases the amount of the page the illustration can take up, making it larger and easier to solve:

For this Iguana maze I changed the width of the “cuts” that form the pathway at the start/goal and internally. This makes them easier to see on a small screen. I also increased the size slightly.

Most people would not notice these changes, but I hope this helped improve the section to the future users !

  • I revised many mazes to be more kid friendly

This is a fancy way to say I made many of the mazes easier. For most it meant redrawing the maze completely, but a few I made minor changes to. This example shows the more extreme version with the Hippo Maze, one is clearly for kids and the other for advanced maze solvers !

  • I added new animal mazes !

New mazes include an armadillo, jellyfish, urchin, turtle, and zebra. In total there are now 47 mazes on the page from 30, plus a preview of 3 additional comic book style mazes available in that section of the site. Here is a fox, or zorro maze in Spanish as an example:

Zorro laberinto
  • I created 3 new free Animal Maze Books.

I themed them From A to Z, so not all of the animal mazes are included, but 26, one for each letter are in the books. One version is in full color, while the other version is in black and white, making it a maze/coloring book. I also got requests for more of this version. It has been very popular with my Dinosaur Maze Book if you missed that one !

The third version has 27 mazes and is in Spanish (you can thank ñ for the extra maze). It is available with all the Spanish language books and in the archive of Spanish language mazes. I had to make some new mazes to cover all the letters in Spanish.

Maze Comic Book Cover #96 - DOC

Issue #96 in my comic book cover series is called DOC and features a maze of a Plague Doctor. The background was made using starryai. I almost called this comic Bubonic, but didn’t want to joke around about a 17th Century disease that was so deadly (too soon ? would not be an excuse). The mask wearing has always been interesting to me. It is part of my mazes themed for Halloween. For more traditional kids Halloween Mazes check out this section of the site. Happy Halloween !

My comic book cover mazes can be found in 2 places:

Maze of the Week #200 - Taxi Cab Maze

I wanted to make Maze of the Week #200 special. For Maze of the Week #100 I featured maybe my best maze, of the Templo de Santo Domingo in Oaxaca, Mexico. Since we are in the midst of my vehicle mazes I choose one of my favorites, a Taxi Cab Maze. Really pleased how this one came out. Some details I like about this maze are the technique I used to make the windows look realistic (also used in Double Decker Bus Maze), the shadows on the textured blacktop and the vintage car. I considered adding a black and white background of a city sidewalk and buildings and may update this in the future.
