Stop back in a week for issue #4 !
Maze of the Week #107 is of another animal, a Penguin. Did you guess correctly based on this preview? The shape of the preview made it very difficult to guess IMO. I did the maze this week to celebrate Penguin Awareness Day which is on January 20.
Here is the first version of the maze:
And now the alternative color version, where I just switched the background to black:
Downloads are available in the comic book style maze section. Come back tomorrow to see what the comic book cover looks like !

So you want to visit a labyrinth in Alaska. I can help. I have selected 5 of the best (there are just over a dozen) that are accessible to the public from around the state, focusing on large population areas. If you want a full list of labyrinths in the state check out the Worldwide Labyrinth Finder.
Why visit a Labyrinth ?
Labyrinths are ancient and mysterious symbols that have been used for centuries for meditation, contemplation, and spiritual renewal. They are also a lot of fun to explore! If you're looking for a unique and challenging experience, walk a labyrinth with intention - it often leads to self-discovery. Personally, I like to walk labyrinths between dawn and sunrise or at sunset until dusk, but any time of day works. You may not realize it, but there is probably a labyrinth near where you live. Today we explore…
1. St. Mary's Episcopal Church Stepping Stone Labyrinth
This is a very unique construction of a labyrinth and had to make the list. The pathways of the classical labyrinth are made of stepping stones on the grass (or snow depending on your visit time). If you visit their website you can find a photo of it on the homepage.
Location: Anchorage, Alaska
Address:
2222 E. Tudor

2. Christ Church Episcopal Labyrinth
A medieval 7 circuit labyrinth located at the back of the church an always open is made of bricks and gravel.

4. Unitarian Universalists Fellowship of Fairbanks Labyrinth
The labyrinth here is made of white bricks into a paving material. It is also a 7-circuit Baltic-type - with a double path, meaning it has pathways in and out !

The rock/garden Chartres style labyrinth has a 60 foot diameter and is open: Summer hours: 8:00AM - 10:00 PM, Winter hours: 9:00AM - 6:00 PM (or until dark). You can read about the Merciful Love Labyrinth on their website and find the breathtaking setting this labyrinth sits in. The labyrinth also has it’s own page where you can learn about it’s history.

5 TIPS FOR VISITING A LABYRINTH
Set an intention for your walk so you can walk with purpose. It could be prayer, reflection, meditation, contemplation, or openness.
Be sure to wear comfortable shoes, as you will be doing a lot of walking.
Typically this would read “Bring water with you, especially if you are visiting on a hot day.”, but for Alaska I would just say - Dress for the weather !
Take your time and enjoy the experience. There is no need to rush through a labyrinth.
Be respectful of other visitors. This includes not making noise and being respectful if walking with other people.

Maze Art I have made from Alaska:
You know the movie has the word Labyrinth in the title, but you aren’t quite sure what the full title is. I can help. I have pulled together the 12 most popular movies with labyrinth in the title. I’ll give you a description, a poster, some information about it and from a few a link to my review of the movie. If the movie contains a maze or labyrinth as part of the story, I will watch and review the movie. You may also like the post 13 Movies with the word Maze in the title if you don’t find what you are looking for here !
This is the first movie I think about. We get David Bowie as the Goblin King, who has taken Jennifer Connelly’s little brother into a fantasy world. To get him back she must solve a labyrinth in time. Along the way we get to meet many puppets from the mind of Jim Henson and we get some singing from Bowie.
Also known as “El laberinto del fauno”, this is the best film in the list - it won over 109 awards, including 3 Oscars. It was directed by Guillermo del Toro and takes place in Spain in 1944 and follows a girl who escapes to a fantasy world.
Starring Dustin Hoffman and based on a book by Donato Carrisi, this crime drama should be watched closely (put down your phone/tablet). A young girl is kidnapped, escapes and is in the hospital recovering. What happened ? And by the end you will be googling just that if you don’t pay attention ! A crime drama that keeps you thinking !
Labyrinth (2002) - (IMDB).
A Serbian film about a man who is haunted by the death of his friend by suicide. Cool labyrinth in the poster.
Labyrinth of Lies (2014) - (IMDB).
A German film that shows how a variety of institutions tried to cover up Nazi war crimes over a decade after the war is cover. While I did not write a formal review of this movie, I have seen it, and it is worth seeing.
Labyrinth of Passion (1982) - (IMDB).
A Spanish film by the renowned director Pedro Almodóvar. Chances are that is enough for you to know if you will like this film about 4 interesting characters and how they interact. What do I mean by “interesting” characters - how about a nymphomaniac, a gay terrorist, an emporer’s son, and the daughter of a dry cleaner.
The Labyrinth (2017) - (IMDB).
A movie that interweaves 8 different stories about life. James Franco is the narrator.
Labyrinth (2011) - (IMDB). A Turkish movie.
An Italian horror-mystery that follows a woman searching for her missing lover. Go to the police ? You are a regular person, why not just open your own investigation (movies) ! People start getting murdered at the seaside resort you are at. No problem !
Labyrinth of Cinema (2019) - (IMDB).
A Japanese time travel movie that stars Tadanobu Asano. The time travel takes place…inside a movie theatre and sends the patrons to different historical points in Japanese history !
Buñuel in the Labyrinth of the Turtles (2018) - (IMDB).
A Spanish 2D animation movie that is for adults (TV-14) and that won many movie awards. Tells the story of a part of the life of Luis Buñuel when he was struggling to make a movie and tells about his relationships with Salvador Dalí and sculptor Ramón Acín during this time.
Labyrinth of Dreams (1997) - (IMDB).
A second Japanese movie that stars Tadanobu Asano, this time about a bus serial killer (I phrased that incorrectly but kept it just because I like the idea of a serial killer going around killing buses?). A woman tries to solve a mystery of who killed her friend, a bus conductor, and suspects Niitaka (Asano). Is he the serial killer ?
Still didn’t find the movie you were looking for ? I suggest you check out my list of maze and labyrinth movies.
