Word Play Mazes - The Autological Maze Collection

I have always liked word play games. I have also always liked making mazes. SO I ended up combining the two for a Maze Collection on the website. Honestly, the maze portion of the word play is secondary to the word play. But still we have a nice section of mazes that I enjoyed making. Lots of Autological interpretations of words. So a word that looks like what it is (plus a maze). I have over 100 on the site in the word play maze collection, so let’s just look at a few of my favorites !!!

My Top 10 Autological Word Mazes

I really like this Balloons Maze which looks like a collection of multi-colored balloons. It is actually 8 different individual letter mazes.

And I had fun making this Broken Maze. At first I had trouble with the E and the N, but once I figured it out I really like how this came out !

And this Crowded Maze probably was inspired while I was riding the subway one morning on the way to work. It feels crowded to me.

This Disappear Maze is not so easy to solve because each letter does indeed disappear. This maze also has a close relative called the Fade Maze you can find on the site.

Disappear Autological Maze

I liked making this Melt Maze. I even did a bit extra and melted the arrows ! This maze also has a close relative on the site, the Mud Maze.

I think this maze gets the most downloads in the word maze section on the site. Skewed letters help give the Mountain Maze shape, and everyone likes the mountain climbers working their way to the peak !

I had fun with this Rocket Maze, rotating the “T” to make a nice rocket nose and using a uppercase R for the base.

Possibly my favorite Autological Maze is this Shadow Maze which gets a bit of help from the Sun.

Like the Broken Maze above, I had a bit of trouble making the Split Maze, but eventually figured it out. It is the only maze on the site with 1 start and 2 possible goals…I think…

And why not end with this Unfinished Maze which is appropriately unfinished (but still solvable) !

So those are my Top 10 Autological Word Mazes. You can find many more on the site and if you have an idea you think would make a good addition, send me a request !

Snack and Dessert Mazes - A Maze Collection for Sweet Tooths

I am hungry right now. Hungry for something sweet and delicious. A really good muffin would be outstanding. As I have mentioned before when I make my daily mazes I have ended up making a lot of different food mazes as a result. Previously I pulled together a collection of my Favorite Fruit and Vegetable Mazes. And as I was doing that I realized I have made a lot of Snack Mazes and Dessert Mazes. (Fun Fact - I have also made 2 Desert Mazes, one of a sand castle and one of a bucket on the beach.) Let’s have a look at some of the best.

My Top 15 Favorite Snack and Dessert Mazes

I have made a few different muffin and cupcake mazes. A Chocolate Cupcake Maze with a nice gradient cup, with sprinkles on top. A Blueberry Muffin Maze with nice chunks of blueberry to bite into. Seems like the cup on that looks a bit familiar…

And you can’t talk about dessert without talking about Ice Cream ! I have done a few different Ice Cream Mazes. Here is a Vanilla Ice Cream Cone Maze, a Strawberry Ice Cream Cone Maze and a Banana Split Maze. I like the mixed maze designs I used for the cones vs. the Ice Cream.

You know what I go nuts for ? Donuts. Two different perspectives and flavors are found in these Doughnut Mazes, or Donut Mazes. A Glazed Sprinkled or a Jelly Filled.

When I was growing up I liked 2 kinds of pie, pumpkin and lemon meringue. The fun thing about making Pie and Cake Mazes is you can use Axonometric grids to get a really fun look. I also like the Lemon Meringue Pie Maze meringue details. If you check out the Food Maze Section you can find a difficult version of the maze. While the Cherry Pie Maze is bursting with awkwardly shaped bright red cherries.

Sometimes an object can be very mazeable just because of its shape. That’s how I feel about this Chocolate Bar Maze. The sections make for great passageways

Sometimes dessert comes with a fortune, a fun saying, some lottery numbers, or a piece of wisdom. Like this Fortune Cookie Maze.

If you have choice do you want your vanilla covered in chocolate from a sandwich or a bar ? The Ice Cream Sandwich Maze and the Ice Cream Bar Maze give you a choice.

How about a Chocolate Chip Cookie Maze ? I have made a few different versions but this is my favorite.

Happy Holidays ! A Collection of Holiday Mazes

Let’s take a look at a collection of the favorite Holiday Mazes I have ever made. You can find these spread out around the site, mostly in the monthly reviews of the daily mazes, but I thought it would be nice to pull a variety of them together. The nice part about this collection is the large mix of maze types beyond the standard maze like arrow mazes, and weaving mazes. There is also a large range of difficulty levels from easy kids to difficult. You probably won’t be surprised that a lot of them are Christmas Mazes. If you want to skip all this and just go straight to the Christmas Mazes, and Halloween Mazes I’ve got you covered.

My 36 Favorite Holiday Mazes

February is about President’s Day and Valentine’s Day and I have both covered here. I can only take credit for the maze part of the Abraham Lincoln Maze since the artwork came from here. The Coin mazes of Lincoln and George Washington were also used to celebrate their birthdays.

And what better way to celebrate Valentine’s Day than with this Heart Maze. I also made an easier heart maze that is also a coloring page if you prefer black and white.

March is all about St Patrick’s Day and sometimes an Early Easter. I went with a 4 Leaf Clover Maze to celebrate it and a Leprechaun Maze that is part of my comic book style maze collection. Hopefully these can bring you some luck and maybe even a pot of gold !

Leprechaun Maze

April starts with April Fool’s Day which means some bad mazes from me. You can find them on the site but none are worthy for inclusion here (they are unsolvable). But April also has Earth Day and typically has Easter also. I included 2 versions of a Rabbit Maze from my comic book style maze collection and my Animal maze section.

May brings Mother’s Day and Memorial Day in the US. I made a printable Mothers Day Card Maze to tell mother’s how amazing they are. And a US Flag Maze for Memorial Day.

June brings Summer and Father’s Day. I liked the format of my Mothers Day card that I repeated for this Fathers Day Card Maze.

July in the US brings us Independence Day. I think a visit to the Lincoln Memorial would make a perfect outing before seeing fireworks, and of course you can recycle the Flag Maze above from Memorial Day.

October brings us cold weather and Halloween. Two of my favorite mazes for the holiday are my Jack O Lantern Maze and my collection of comic book style mazes featuring characters (I picked a Vampire to display here). Of course I have an extensive Halloween Maze section if you want more !

November brings us Election Day, Veteran’s Day and the best food holiday in the world, Thanksgiving. But we start with a maze/coloring page of La Catrina for Dia de los Muertos. For Election Day I went with a Vote Pin Maze. I went with a few military vehicle mazes for Veteran’s Day (My vehicle maze section includes all types of vehicle mazes). For Thanksgiving I have a Turkey Maze, of course.

December gives us Christmas, New Year’s, Chanukah and Festivus. I have each of them covered. Let’s start with a Menorah Maze for Chanukah. As for the airing of grievances, the traditional Festivus Pole Maze, which is thin and hard to solve unless printed so George can complain about it.

And now we get into a small selection of Christmas Mazes. Lots of variety in types. You can find multiple free downloadable Christmas books or an expanded section of individual mazes in the Christmas Maze Section, or in the Spanish language section si prefieres. Here is small sampling:

Fruits and Vegetable Mazes - A Collection of Mazes to Make you Hungry

Maybe it’s because I eat a lot of them so they are always top of mind, but I seem to make a lot of Fruit and Vegetable Mazes. Some of them are collected in the newly updated Food Maze Collection, but not all of them. The nice thing about that section is there are so many different food mazes to look through, but it certainly isn’t concise so today I want to take you through my favorite Fruit and Vegetable Mazes. This list includes mazes from very easy to hard.

Let’s get started !

My 10 Favorite Fruit and Vegetable Mazes

In no particular order…let’s start with a maze I like because of the shading when I colored it. The difficult thing about making a Peach Maze is making sure it doesn’t look like an Apple. The Notch down the side and the shading do this I think.

Another maze where I used some shading to add some green to the Banana Maze. I made 2 versions of the same illustration, one very easy and the other a bit harder.

One of the first vegetable mazes I made for the website was this Cabbage Maze. It is a difficult maze to solve, but I really like the way it turned out despite that. As you can see I used the pathways to color the cabbage rather than use black, and varied the coloring to ensure it looked more cabbage-y than lettuce.

Cabbage Maze

This Peanut Maze is a vegetable maze which I had to search for online to confirm because I didn’t know. The design of this looks a bit like a grid maze because of the structure of a peanut, but is really a draw and cut construction.

My guess is you won’t find many Garlic Bulb Mazes out there on the webs. I like the look of this one and enjoy the free drawn maze construction method. Garlic really has a interesting curved shape so this construction fit perfectly IMO.

Not all of my mazes are made for kids, like this Strawberry Maze that is a bit more complicated. I went heavy on the seeds. But, most of them are made for kids, so I did a second version that is easy.

This Carrot Maze was made for kids. I made it extra bright to give it a cartoonlike look. I wouldn’t suggest you eat a carrot if the greens were really glowing like this !

Carrot Maze

I think I made this for a Vegetarian holiday. It features a group of a few of the vegetables I have made for different projects grouped together. It makes for a nice Vegetables Maze, although you only move through the lettuce, so maybe it is more accurately a Green Leaf Lettuce Maze.

If you liked the difficulty of the Cabbage Maze above, you will also enjoy this Corn on the Cob Maze, not to be confused with a Corn Maze on a farm ! I went black and white on this one, so feel free to color it when you are done with the maze. It uses both a vertical and horizontal maze construction. It is also a maze whose bones would make for a good draw and cut maze like the Peanut maze above.

Then, I went back and colored the illustration and made the maze much easier.

What was the food you needed to be told to eat as a kid ? For me it was broccoli.

That concludes my 10 favorite fruit and vegetable mazes. If you are looking for something more I have actually made a free downloadable activity book for kids on the subject. It is one of my early ones, with 24 pages of activities plus answers. You might recognize some of the pictures on the cover. You can find it in the Activity Book Section. It features word unscramble (or drow sunblecram), dot box, connect the dots, coloring pages and other similar games.

Since I made these early mazes I have transitioned to making maze art. If that sounds interesting to you check out my homepage where I always have my latest creations !
