5 Labyrinths to Visit in Alberta

Before we get to my recommendations for Alberta I want to tell you about some statistics about labyrinths in Canada from some research I did.   • The Labyrinth Park in Grand Cache, Alberta has an estimated elevation of 1,220 m (4,000 ft), the highest elevation labyrinth in Canada. It is easy to find on Google Maps (click for great pictures) and features a wonderful 11 circuit labyrinth made of stones with perfect mountain views !

  • The largest labyrinth in Alberta above on private property is also the largest Chartres style labyrinth in Canada.

Labyrinths are ancient and mysterious symbols that have been used for centuries for meditation, contemplation, and spiritual renewal. They are also a lot of fun to explore! If you're looking for a unique and challenging experience, walk a labyrinth with intention - it often leads to self-discovery. Personally, I like to walk labyrinths between dawn and sunrise or at sunset until dusk, but any time of day works. You may not realize it, but there is probably a labyrinth near where you live. 1. Botanical Gardens of Silver Springs Labyrinth

Labyrinth entrance begins at 0:47

I love a good botanical garden, and this one features a wonderful 11 circuit Chartres replica with a 60 foot diameter. Made paving stones for the pathways it can easily be found with an entry on Google Maps ! Plan a trip on the Botanical Garden website.

2. Grande Cache Labyrinth Park

Mentioned above, this Labyrinth Park in Grand Cache, Alberta has an estimated elevation of 1,220 m (4,000 ft), the highest elevation labyrinth in Canada. It is easy to find on Google Maps and features a wonderful 11 circuit labyrinth made of stones with perfect mountain views !

3. World Peace Earth Shrine and Sanctuary Labyrinth

Built by Michael Petrakis this Spiral labyrinth along the Old Man River has wonderful views. The spiral has 6 circuits and is 17.5 meters wide. EMAIL SENT 8.11

4. Inglewood River Promenade Park Labyrinth

 

This Medieval 7 circuit labyrinth is located in next to the Inglewood parking lot and the Bow River. Made from concrete, the labyrinth is open to walk whenever the park is open.

5. St. Albert United Church Labyrinth

 

This 11 circuit Medieval, Chartres style labyrinth with a 40 foot diameter is available to walk seasonally. You can plan a trip on the church website.

5 TIPS FOR VISITING A LABYRINTH

  1. Set an intention for your walk so you can walk with purpose. It could be prayer, reflection, meditation, contemplation, or openness.

  2. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes, as you will be doing a lot of walking.

  3. Bring water with you, especially if you are visiting on a hot day.

  4. Take your time and enjoy the experience. There is no need to rush through a labyrinth.

  5. Be respectful of other visitors. This includes not making noise and being respectful if walking with other people.
