I took multiple months to research physical labyrinths in the US so I could answer questions I always seem to ask. These are not the labyrinths that I teach you how to draw on the site, but rather the type you walk physically in the real world. I used the valuable site labyrinth locator to research and come up with answers to more than 30 questions using data from the site. All answers are correct as of June 2026. What is most popular labyrinth size in the US ?
The most popular size of labyrinth in the US has a diameter of 40 feet, with the second most popular 30 feet in diameter. Indoor labyrinths are much smaller, with a 24 foot diameter being the most common, followed by 36 feet.
What is the largest indoor labyrinth in the US ?
4 labyrinths in the US have a 50 foot diameter.
St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Fayetteville, Arkansas has a beautiful octagonal Amiens style labyrinth. This is a permanent labyrinth and made from floor tiles. The photos below are used with permission, courtesy of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Fayetteville, AR. This is the largest permanent indoor labyrinth in the US.
One of the many Paths of Peace labyrinths in Stillwater, Minnesota has a 50 foot diameter. This particular one, a classical 5 circuit made from PVC pipes is interesting because it is designed for use by horses ! It is also portable (and rentable).
Sacred Heart Church in Bayside, New York has an 11 circuit Chartres replica style labyrinth on canvas.
The Trinity Cathedral in Sacramento, California had an indoor Chartres replica style labyrinth (but I could not confirm this still exists - not on website or church calendar).

What is the largest labyrinth in the US ?
I have been researching this for years. I have found 17 labyrinths that claim to have a diameter of 200 feet and higher. I will start going through them from largest claim until we find the answer we are searching for. I have included links for each so you can research on your own. I will recognize achievements as I go. None of the searches I have done recognize these as the largest (yet).
850 foot diameter. A spiral labyrinth called from/called the 3HO Summer Solstice is located in Hernandez, New Mexico. You can find it on the satellite view of Google Maps. Verdict: This is the largest spiral labyrinth in the USA. I doubt most people think of spirals when asking this question so we will keep going.
300 foot diameter. The Cherry Point Farm and Market features a large 300x300 labyrinth made of lavender and herbs. It has a shape that fits the land…and does appear to have a set pathway. You can check it out on Google Maps and decide for yourself. I think it is labyrinth inspired, but not a real labyrinth. I would still enjoy a day at the farm and do not doubt walking here would be meditative.
272 foot diameter. The Shepherd’s Ring West labyrinth is a 10 circuit medieval labyrinth from Fredonia, New York. It is cut into a field and is on private property. Recent Google Maps satellite views suggest it may no longer be maintained. The website that supported it is gone. My emails to the listed contact are not replied to. Anyone live near here to check ? Unconfirmed - but could be the largest medieval labyrinth in the US ! My verdict: Probably no longer maintained.
262 foot diameter. The GilChrist Retreat Center labyrinth in Three Rivers, Michigan is an 11 circuit medieval cut into the grass. You can easily see it on Google Maps. Plan a trip to the retreat center on their website. Verdict: I believe this is the largest medieval labyrinth in the USA.
250 foot diameter. The Silo City – River Hill Labyrinth in Buffalo, New York appears to be a meandering labyrinth and created a very nice park to explore near the old grain elevators of the city.
245 foot diameter. The Koinonia Retreat Center labyrinth in South Haven, Minnesota is an 11 circuit medieval labyrinth cut into the grass. I could not find this labyrinth on Google Maps and the website is no longer available so I assume it is no longer maintained.
240 foot diameter. The Massachusetts Horticultural Society’s Garden at Elm Bank labyrinth is an 8 circuit medieval labyrinth located in Wellesley, Massachusetts. There is admission charged to get into the gardens. Check out the website for more details.
222 foot diameter. Field To Fork Farm labyrinth in Chester, New Hampshire. This is a rock dust path on a meadow. It is a contemporary shape. Verdict: This is the largest contemporary labyrinth in the US.
220 foot diameter. Indian Creek Nature Center labyrinth in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. This labyrinth is mowed into the prairie. This is the largest Baltic style labyrinth in the US.
220 foot diameter. The Loblollylaby Labyrinth in Blountstown, Florida is a classical 7 circuit labyrinth made with native vegetation in the grass. I believe it is the largest Classical labyrinth in the US.
210 foot diameter. The Centralia Foundation Park labyrinth in Centralia, Illinois. This is an 11 circuit Chartres style labyrinth cut into the grass. I believe it is the largest Chartres style labyrinth in the US. Here is a link to find it on Google Maps.
210 foot diameter The Friends of Lakeview Prairie Labyrinth in Macomb, Illinois is a Classical 7 circuit labyrinth cut into the grass.
209 foot diameter. The Buryat Country Retreat Center is a contemporary labyrinth cut into the grass.
200 foot diameter. There are 4 labyrinths listed but I believe not all are still maintained, a private property in Guffey. Colorado (I believe this is no longer maintained), the Grailville Retreat & Program Center, the Jennings Farm and Woolgather Farm (no longer maintained).
You may have noticed these labyrinths are all cut into grass or similar… which makes me wonder:
What is the largest permanent labyrinth in the US - made with stone, or not cut into the grass ?
I found that every labyrinth in the US over 130 feet is made from cutting into the grass, planting flowers, or similar. So I went looking for a more permanent labyrinth. This is what I found:
The Lone Star College – Tomball Labyrinth in Tomball, Texas is 130 feet in diameter. It is Roman style labyrinth made with a granite stone pathway with shrubbery for walls. I was thinking I would find a labyrinth made from stones, but I think this qualifies as the largest permanent labyrinth in the US.
The Labyrinth Garden PA labyrinth in Greentown, PA has a 126 foot diameter as is an 11 circuit medieval labyrinth. The labyrinth features stone pathways surrounded by flowers. There is an admission fee and you can learn about it on the garden’s website. I believe this is the largest permanent medieval labyrinth in the US.
What is the largest octagonal labyrinth in the US?
The largest octagonal labyrinth in the US is the Sunhawk Farms labyrinth located in Hopland, California. It was designed based off of the labyrinth in St. Quentin, France (which has been around since 1495!!!) and features 9 circuits. The labyrinth has a diameter of 100 feet, was made using lavender plants and can be seen on Google Maps.
What is the largest Man in the Maze style labyrinth in the US?
The largest Man in the Maze style labyrinth in the US is located at the Lavender Wind Farm in Coupeville, WA and it is 98 feet in diameter.
What is the average labyrinth size in the US ?

There are almost an identical number of Classical and Medieval type labyrinths in the US each at 29.5% of the total, however the third most popular type is Chartres (26% of the total) which is technically also Medieval but is so popular that if it has that structure it is classified as Chartres. What is the most common type of INDOOR labyrinth in the US ?
55% of the indoor labyrinths in the US are Chartres style. The next closest type is Medieval at 20%, and since Chartres style is a type of Medieval labyrinth, you could also answer Medieval at 75% of indoor labyrinths if you prefer. Here is what an 11 Circuit Chartres Labyrinth looks like :

What is the most common type of labyrinth in the US when considering type, circuits and size ?
That would be an 11 circuit Chartres style labyrinth that is 40 feet in diameter, followed by the 11 circuit Chartres style labyrinth but only 36 feet wide, then the 11 circuit Chartres style labyrinth but 42 feet across. The original Chartres labyrinth in France is 42 feet 3 3/8 inches across, and has 11 circuits so it makes sense this configuration is most popular with similar sizes in labyrinths inspired by it.
What is the most common type of INDOOR labyrinth in the US when considering type, circuits and size ?
Many indoor labyrinths do not report what size they are, but from the available information it is the 11 circuit Chartres style labyrinth that is 36 feet in diameter. The next most popular is often called a Petite Chartres labyrinth which is a 7 circuit Chartres style labyrinth that is 24 feet in diameter.
How many circuits are most popular for physical labyrinths in the US ?
The most common circuits for labyrinths in the US are 7 circuits, but it depends on the location. Indoor labyrinths are typically 11 circuits (40% of them), while outdoor are more commonly 7 circuits (41% of them). What labyrinth has the most circuits in the US ?
There are 3 labyrinths in the US that feature 15 circuits. The Aquarian Labyrinth in Clearlake, California; the CC37 Labyrinth (a spiral) in Winterhaven, California and the Cedar Ridge Farm in Trent, Texas. There appear to be no labyrinths in the US with 12, 13, or 14 circuits.
What unique labyrinth shapes are there in the US ?
There are many interesting shapes. I will pull together the best for a blog post I will link to here when I complete it. You can find yin & yang, triangle, hearts, crosses, pentagram, hexagons, butterfly, and medicine wheel shapes to name a few. Hearts seem to be popular for non-traditional labyrinth shapes.

Glenwood, New Mexico has 7 labyrinths in a town of 165 people. Here are the outlier cities with small populations but many labyrinths ! Often these cities contain businesses, or retreats featuring labyrinths.
What percent of labyrinths are indoor vs outdoor in the US ?
85% of the labyrinths that have been reported are outdoors in the US. It is possible that indoor labyrinths are more prevalent since anyone could report the location of an outdoor labyrinth, while indoor is only public information if the owner wants it to be. So chances are this percentage is off, but outdoor is still the majority.
What labyrinth is at the highest elevation in the US ?
The Whispering Horse Sanctuary in Fairplay, Colorado is located at an altitude of 10,300 ft. in elevation. It is an 11 circuit Chartres style labyrinth with a diameter of 105 feet made from logs !
What labyrinth is at the lowest elevation in the US ?
I believe it is one of the many labyrinths located in New Orleans, Louisiana since I could not find any in the Salton Sink region of California. Although not all of the New Orleans labyrinths have addresses that are searchable it would most likely be one of them. Many of the ones on the list tie at an elevation of 0 feet above sea level. I have not found one below sea level in the US.
Where is the Northernmost labyrinth in the US ?
There are 5 labyrinths located in Fairbanks, Alaska which I mapped….and the most northern appears to be a tie between 2 on Meadows Road at the latitude of 64.9. One is on private property and the other is at an Airbnb and available to visit by appointment. For public labyrinths the other 3 are all very close. Either way a labyrinth in Fairbanks is the current answer.
Where is the Southernmost labyrinth in the US ?
My initial thought was the labyrinth in Key West, Florida at a 24.5 latitude, the Key West Gardens at West Martello Tower which contains a 5 circuit Medieval labyrinth. That is actually the southernmost on the mainland, but Hawaii is actually farther South. The most southernmost labyrinth is a 6 circuit labyrinth at Ho’oli Healing Retreat and Kona Coffee Farm, however it is not open to the public without an appointment. Fun fact: Driving from Key West, FL to Fairbanks, AK is a 5K mile trip that takes 79 hours.
Where is the Westernmost labyrinth in the US ?
This one you would expect to come from Hawaii, and you would be correct. The Friends of Momilani Kai Labyrinth in located at Momilani Kai, on the island of Kauai. It has an entry on Google Maps so you can locate it easily. The views are excellent and worth a look on Google Maps (or in person if you are lucky enough to visit).
Where is the Easternmost labyrinth in the US ?
Called A Labyrinth By the Sea, the 8 circuit medieval labyrinth is in the town of Lubec, Maine on the Canadian border (can you see Canada from the labyrinth ? Maybe - let me know !) is the easternmost labyrinth in the US. Longitude - 67.016.

All 76 spiral type labyrinths in the US which include single, double and triple spirals are located outdoors.
Chartres style labyrinths typically have 11 circuits (67%), the same as the real thing in France, although petite versions with less circuits are common because of space constraints (often from indoor versions).
Minnesota contains 18 Baltic style mazes, the state with the most in the US. Minnesota also contains the most dual path labyrinths, often used for reconciliation walks.
7 of the 17 Man in the Maze style labyrinths are located in the state of Arizona.
Washington state contains 5 triple spiral labyrinths, most in the US.
72% of the classical labyrinths in the US have 7 circuits.

Notes on my data: I spent 2 months researching labyrinths using labyrinth locator in April/May 2026. If information was not given there - for example the labyrinths diameter - I researched it using Google Maps and measured it. I counted circuits. I identified types. I removed any mazes from the data, as well as the tattoos to get a better data set. When a labyrinth is in disrepair or closed, it is often not taken down from the site. There are entries on the site that are counted as 1 on the site that describe 7 different labyrinths on the same property. I cataloged all 7.
