A reindeer is a type of caribou/deer native to Arctic regions which make it a natural friend of Santa since it already lives at the North Pole. In North America they are called caribou if they are wild and reindeer if they are domesticated (like Santa’s). I found a great kids webpage that lists animal facts about reindeer.
